Snapping a two-session losing streak, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose above the 21,000 level for the first time in nearly 3 years on Thursday following capital inflows ahead of the RBI's policy review next week.
At 10.08 am, Sensex was up 254.46 points at 21022.34. Similarly, Nifty was up 66.25 points at 6244.60 during the same time.
The 30-share index, which had lost over 126 points in the previous two sessions, gained 80.66 points, or 0.39 per cent, to 20,848.54 in early trade with realty, metal and oil and gas sector stocks leading the recovery.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose 34.05 points, or 0.55 per cent, to 6,212.40.
Brokers said fresh buying by funds and retailers mainly influenced the sentiment.
