Director Neeraj Pandey's 'Special 26' starring Akshay Kumar and Kajal Agarwal was both critically acclaimed and commercial successful. Tollywood filmmaker Harish Shankar who was very much impressed with its treatment obtained the remake rights long ago. He was supposed to take it on the floors soon after 'Subrahmanyam For Sale'. That's when Allu Arjun entered the scene! Impressed with the characterization of 'Duvvada Jagannadham', Bunny has given his consent for the project and it would go on floors soon.
The recent developments sent an indication that Harish Shankar might have shelved 'Special 26' remake completely. He, however, made it clear remake of the Bollywood superhit would be directed and produced by him. Krishna, a good friend of Harish, could co-produce the project. Shooting begins in Summer next year.
Trend of Directors turning into Producers has been picking up. The best part about it would be the focus on low-budget ventures rather than aiming for high-cost projects.
