Thanks to the super-duper success of her latest film Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran, actress Nikki Galrani is on ‘Cloud 9’ nowadays and in critics’ opinion has already started her upward march to becoming the ‘next big thing’ in Kollywood.
Released on 02nd June, the film enters its fifth week in theatres this Friday (01st July) and at a time when films are finding it difficult to run to packed houses in their third week itself, Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran is still going great guns. Produced at a modest budget of Rs.10 crores, it has already collected more than Rs.50 crores.
Nikki, younger sibling of Tollywood’s Sanjjanaa Galrani, debuted in Tamil films as heroine in G.V. Prakash Kumar’s Darling early last year. Though her next film Yagavarayinum Naa Kakka wasn’t a box-office success, she charmed the audiences in general and youths in particular with her stylish voice (she dubbed for herself in the film) and bike-riding skills.
Though Ko 2 didn’t do that well in theatres, her performance in the film was lauded by critics. Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran’s super-success and has established herself as a top actress in Kollywood. She now has Motta Siva Ketta Siva opposite Raghava Lawrence, Kadavul Irukkan Kumaru opposite G.V Prakash Kumar besides an untitled films opposite Vikram Prabhu and Jiiva.
The Jiiva-Nikki Galrani starrer (tentatively titled as Kee) would be directed by debutant director Khaleesh, who had till now been working as Selvaraghavan’s assistant director. Billed as a romantic comedy, it also has RJ Balaji in a pivotal role. The film’s shoot is likely to commence in August.
