PVR Rivoli facelifts heritage property

In a glittering ceremony on 2nd March 2006, PVR Cinemas increased its chain of screens by opening PVR Rivoli based in the heart of the capital Delhi. This writer was invited for the exclusive screening of OSCAR nominated 'Walk The Line' that marked the launch of the theatre.

Rivoli stands tall amongst one of the rare heritage properties in Delhi and its facelift by PVR opens an exciting chapter in the history of this decades old theatre.

The 1930-era hall, one of the four that CP, Delhi had got when it was completed, has been refurbished makes the screen count of PVR Cinemas as 51 screens across the country.

While it will remain a single-screen theatre, only "classy" movies will be shown for which you may have to shell out as much as you do at other multiplexes and there will be class for a price- says Mr. Ajjay Bijli, Chairman & Managing Director, PVR Cinemas. He further adds the metamorphosis that these halls are undergoing reflect the changing times at Connaught Place. Plaza was converted into a PVR group theatre couple of years back. We have tried to keep the original charm intact at both the cineplexes.

The next to follow suit could be Odeon Backed by PVR's strong technical expertise, it will not be just a multiplex that screens films but a value added entertainment destination where various leisure activities are blended together to provide an enhanced platform for cinema exhibition, says Mr. Bijli.

With old timers see winds of change blowing at CP, the revival of this heritage property will mark staying on stories for generation next retaining the old world charm.

PVR Limited has recently entered the capital market with its initial public offering to finance new cinema projects, expand film distribution business, technological upgrading and renovation of cinemas. The company plans to expand its cinema footprint and set up new cinemas in Mumbai, Delhi, Indore, Gurgaon, Lucknow, Chennai, Ludhiana, Aurangabad and Latur, which will take its screen count to over 150 screens in the next three years.
