Pyramid Saimira on a mission

Pyramid Saimira Theatre has entered into a revolutionary mission to encourage healthy products and new talents in the field of cinema. The company, which has entered into film production recently, has joined hands with 'Jnanabanu visual media', alternate culture and communication production unit, to launch a novel project called the 'One Reel Movement'.

What is 'One Reel Movement' all about? Films with the duration of only one reel will be produced and exhibited in a chain of theatres. The 10 minutes long films will feature new ideas and new talent. The one reel will be shown before the main film in the theatres as a bonus film to the audiences, says the press release of Pyramid Saimira.

Such a screening is feasible, as Pyramid Saimira has hundreds of theatres under its command.

The first one reel film will be screened on Dec. 28, 2007. The day is a special one. 112 years ago, the first cinema was shown to the public by Lumiere brothers on the same day exactly. 112 Tamil writers will be inaugurating the first show of the film on this day simultaneously in 112 theatres in different places of Tamilnadu.

The first film of the one reel movement is `Thirumathi James Ippodhu Enna Seyya Vendum` directed and produced by Jnani based on a short story by eminent Tamil writer Dilip Kumar. Cinematography is by P S Dharan DFT. Editing is by I P Sivamathi DFT. Anil N C does the music.

Artistes Rohini and Neelson have performed this ten minutes long film with just two shots taken in one single take. More than seventy five percent of the crew comprises budding talents. The proceedings during the ten minutes are quite interesting. Neelson speaks throughout the film, while Rohini has no dialogue at all.

Jnani will be producing the first six one-reel films after which scripts from newcomers will be selected for production from new comers.

The novel effort is now launched in Tamil. This will be extended to other languages including Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and English soon, the press release informs.

Kudos to Pyramid Saimira and Jnanababu for venturing into an effort that could unearth new talent besides providing quality films.
