Music Maestro AR Rahman wins Grammy Award

Rahman does it again. After winning two Oscars last year, the music maestro is now bringing home yet another international honour- Grammy. He has won two Grammys for the same ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, which fetched him the Oscars.

This is the first time that the 44-year-old Indian musician being nominated for the Grammys', popularly known as the Oscars of the music industry. The Mozart of Madras, as Rahman is fondly called, was nominated in the best soundtrack for motion pictures, television or other visual media category for the film, and in the best song for motion picture, television and other visual media category for ‘Jai ho’, according to the official Grammy website.

Written by ace lyricist Gulzar, ‘Jai ho’ has been sung by Sukhvinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Vijay Prakash and Rahman himself. He shares the award with Gulzar who penned the song.

Other Indians who had won the Grammy awards so far are Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar (three times), Zakir Hussain (two times) and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt who has the distinction of creating the Mohan Veena.
