After two days of much speculation, SPS Rathore, the former top cop who molested 14-yar-old Ruchika Girhotra in 1990, has been granted anticipatory bail till January 7.

Rathore's bail hearing resumed at the Panchkula sessions court on Friday around 9:30 am. Arguing for anticipatory bail, Abha Rathore, the former cops wife and lawyer said, "School did not expel Ruchika because of us. Let any inquiry be initiated, we will come out clean."

"In the recent FIR, there was no case made out on Sec 307, which is Attempt to Murder, as there was no complaint at that time by Ruchika's brother and no medical examination," she said.

Now after all these years, the Girhotras are and misleading the media, she alleged. She also spoke about a Veena Girhotra, who was allegedly Ruchika's stepmother.

Outside the court, Pankaj Bharadwaj, the Girhotras' lawyer said all charges by Abha Rathore were false and that the Rathores got Ruchika's inquest report fudged.

On Thursday, the judge had asked Abha Rathore to submit a copy of the Supreme Court order on Friday.

Troubles multiplied for Rathore with Ruchika's family filing a complaint of abetment to suicide against him and the CBI also going after him, saying it would file an appeal for enhancement of punishment.

Thursday was a day of fast moving developments with Ashu alleging that he was subjected to third degree police torture, personally supervised by Rathore, and the family harassed by him that drove his 14-year-old sister to commit suicide.

What Rathore has so far been convicted of is molesting the teenager. For that, he was sentenced earlier this month to six months in prison. The abetment to suicide charge, if proven, can land SPS Rathore in jail for 10 years.
