Rajinikanth has sought the cooperation of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to ensure a smooth release of his new film 'Kuselan', after some pro-Kannada groups raised objections to it over his stand on the controversial Hogenakkal project.
His latest flick 'Kuselan' would hit theatres on 1 August. In a bid to mollify opposition from the groups, the actor, in a letter to the chambers in Kannada, said he was pained to know that what he had spoken during the Hogenakal debate had 'hurt some people'.
'It is against my nature to hurt anybody', the actor, who has a large fan following in Karnataka especially in Tamil, dominated sections, said.
The pro-Kannada groups, including the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, had opposed the release of the film. They allege that Rajini's statement favored the implementation of the project, which was opposed by Karnataka. This according to the groups had hurt the sentiments of Kannada people.
'My aim, wish and desire are that people should not be put to any inconvenience', he said in the signed letter.
'As I have said before, my films in Karnataka are viewed by not just Tamils and Kannadigas but by people of all linguistic backgrounds', he said.
'So, I seek your cooperation for the release of Kuselan,' so that they (fans) do not face any problems', he said.
