Vathiyar makes a point

Kollywood saw three movies releasing last week-end. Arjun's Vathiyar, Srikanth's Kizhakku Kadarkarai Salai and Ramesh - Karunaas starrer Prathi Gnayiru 9.30 am Muthal 10.30 am Varai hit the theatres.

Fortunately for Arjun, Vathiyar directed by Venkatesh and produced by A P Film Garden, has taken a decent opening in Chennai while in the rural and suburbs, it has been really big. Featuring Arjun in the role of a do-gooder, the movie has swift narration, pulsating action sequences and good humor by Vadivelu working in its favor.

Srikanth's Kizhakku Kadarkarai Salai has managed an average opening as well. Let us see how it fares in the coming days.

Performance of Deepavali Films

Ajith's Varalaru and Jeeva's E continue their good run. Both films have managed to attract good crowds and are now in the fourth week.

In spite of monsoon rains, film buffs continue to turn up at theatres to watch these films.

Silambarasan's Vallavan has been doing good in Chennai, while the rest of the movies including Vijayakanth's Dharmapuri, Sarath Kumar's Thalaimagan and Saran's Vattaram are witnessing just average crowds.

Positive reviews and a stupendous performance as a bharathanatyam dancer by Ajith have done the trick for Varalaru. E featuring Jeeva, which dwells on bio-war, has picked up too. Well-planned publicity campaign and promos have helped in arousing the curiosity of the audiences. The theme is new, it is one of the refreshing attempts of this season and Jeeva's sincerity and seriousness have been well recognized.

Vallavan is doing well. A triangular love-story with twists and turns has been brought out well by the actor-director. The songs set to tunes by Yuvan Shankar Raja in Vallavan have managed to attract crowds to the theatres.

Aishwarya Rai and Abishek Bachchan starrer Umrao Jaan has got a lukewarm response in Chennai so far.

Forthcoming releases

November will see movies including Madhavan's Rendu and Aavani Thingal starring newcomers, getting released. Meanwhile, the much-awaited James Bond movie Casino Royale, featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond, is getting released this week-end.

The movie is about James Bond's first mission, wherein he must stop a banker from winning a casino tournament and using the prize money to fund terrorist activities. This film just might give Tamil movies in Chennai theatres a run for their money.
