High Court clears Selvamanis Kutra Pathirigai

It is good news for director R K Selvamani as his Kutra Pathirigai, based on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, has been cleared for release.

The Madras High Court on Thursday directed Regional Censor Board to give certification for the movie within four weeks and also directed Selvamani to cut a couple of scenes from the movie.

A relieved Selvamani, talking to media persons, said, 'This brings great joy to me. My long wait for over 14 years has come to an end. We began shooting the movie in 1991 and completed it the next year. But since then, we have been running from pillar to post to get censor certification.'

Mansoor Ali Khan plays one-eyed Sivarasan in the movie.

Says Selvamani, 'Though we have dealt in detail about the assassination, no mention would be made about LTTE.'

The High Court flayed the Central Board for Film Certification for what it called rank political partisanship and asked the Board to release the film with an `A' certificate.

As for the scenes showing a former Chief Minister, the Bench said it was a work of fact and fiction, and that there was nothing wrong in retaining the portions.

Rapping the CBFC for fighting the case for over 10 years, the Judges said it was condemnable.

Selvamani, who completed the film in 1993, will now release the film soon.

We wish Selvamani all success.
