Actor-director Bhagyaraj chose to celebrate his birthday on Sunday by calling on Chief Minister M Karunanidhi along with his family members.
Beginning his career as an assistant to directors G Ramakrishnan and Bharathiraja, Bhagyaraj was recognised for his script writing talent.
Among his early work was the script for the Kizhake Pogum Rayil (1978). He made his directorial debut with the film Suvarillatha Chittirangal (1979). He soon established his own concern and started producing a string of distinctive films made mainly in the Tamil language. Bhagyaraj often cast himself in the lead roles of the films he scripted and directed, effectively carving out a niche for himself in the actor-auteur vein. He even made foray into Bollywood and directed stars like Amitabh Bachchan, the big B.
Among his blockbusters include Indru Poi Nallai Vaa, Mouna Geethangal, Andha 7 Naatkal, Darling Darling Darling, Thooral Ninnu Pochu, Mundhanai Mudichu, Thavani Kanavugal, Chinna Veedu, Idhu Namma Aalu and so on.
He, along with his wife Poornima Bhagyaraj, daughter Saranya and son Santhanu called on Kalaignar Karunanidhi at his residence and got his blessings.
