Mani Ratnam is someone who believes that there is so much of scenic beauty in India and he always prefers to can his films here unless otherwise, his script demands an overseas shoot. Only on two occasions earlier, he has gone abroad to shoot and on both instances, the story demanded it. He had gone to Sri Lanka for Kannathil Muthamittal and for his biography on Dhirubhai Ambani, he had to shoot a few portions in Istanbul. Now the latest rumors doing the rounds is that for Kaatru Veliyidai, Mani Ratnam would apparently be heading to Europe for the first time for a song sequence. Though we are still waiting for a confirmation from the team regarding this, the chances for this to happen look weak unless the story really demands it. We know that the story has a strong connection to Leh, Ladakh and there were a few shooting spot stills that had snow backdrop. To match the snow backdrop, perhaps, they could head to places like Switzerland. But a dream song sequence in Europe is something that does not sound like Mani Ratnam’s style. Let’s wait and see.
