Producer RK Suresh gives out collection figures of Dharmadurai

Director Seenu Ramasamy’s Dharmadurai featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Tamannaah has been doing very well and reports come in saying that it is going to be remade in other languages as well. We contacted a highly jubilant producer RK Suresh of Studio 9 and he gives out the facts:

“Revenue-wise, it is an all-time high for Vijay Sethupathi. At the end of the second week, Dharmadurai is likely to cross 17 crores net in Tamil Nadu theatricals alone and it is still going strong. It is also the first time, a Vijay Sethupathi’s film has covered A, B and C Centre audience.

We came with almost 400 theatres in the 1st week, 280 in the 2nd week and would be going with 200 in the 3rd week. The film is having 70% occupancy during the week days.

I expect the collection to cross 21 crores after the 3rd week wherein the theatre share will increase. Since Dharmadurai is U rated, tax benefits will be there. All the distributors are very happy and it has turned profitable for everyone. Studio 9 banner value has increased.

Chennai city alone is reaching close to 3 crores which has never happened for a Vijay Sethupathi film. This weekend, it may even touch 4 crores in Chennai. People are quoting random figures but I only know the exact details.

There are plans to remake the film in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali and Marathi. I will either produce or tie up with big groups in the respective languages. Already a big company has asked in Telugu and I would be co-producing there. In Kannada, there are talks with Sudeep and Puneeth Rajkumar. In Hindi, Marathi and Bengali too, there are interested people. I have planned Seenu Ramasamy as director in Kannada and Hindi. Telugu will have a different director.

Dharmadurai has a rich social content that can be relatable in all the languages across. The film has struck a chord with the audience. I know people who have seen the movie 5-6 times. We made a film for family audience. When audience celebrates a movie, when family audiences are patronizing a film, no one can do anything against its success.

The major USP of Dharmadurai is its artists and technicians. When we are communicating our ideas through experienced artists, the impact is very different and has a wider reach. In all Dharmadurai is a huge commercial hit.”.
