Just as India rejoices at 'Taare Zameen Par' being selected at being the official film from India to fight for the Best Film in the Foreign Film category at the Oscars, another film that depicts the life and times of an Indian settled in Singapore finds itself as the official Singapore entrant to the Oscars. The name of the film is 'My Magic' and has been made in Tamil.

Eighty percent of the film has been made in Tamil and the other twenty percent features Hokkien and English. The story is about a wonderful relationship between a father and his son. The father, a magician and an alcoholic tries to reconnect with his fourteen year old son. The film has reportedly been shot in a period of eight days due to financial reasons.

'My Magic' featured at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France. This is one film festival that Indian films have not been able to be recognized in. Tamil speaking audiences at the festival were on a high especially because they didn't need subtitles for this Singaporean film.

Directed by Eric Khoo, an award winning filmmaker 'My Magic' is reportedly expected to be a major contender at the Oscars.
