Story:

Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara is the tale of a Chennai based happy-go-lucky youngster Summar Moonji Kumar [Vijay Sethupathi] aka Kumar, who aims to win the heart of Kumudha [Nanditha] daughter of Patimandram Raja. As expected, Raja try to get rid of Kumar's love for his girl and in the process approaches local goon played by Pasupathi.

Meanwhile, Kumar happens to meet Bala [Ashwin], a tiddler who hates his job and very possessive about his lady love Renu [Swathi]. How did Kumar and Bala meet? Did Kumar succeed in winning Kumudha's heart? Forms the crux of Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara...

Performances:

Vijay Sethupathi has once again proved he is best in choosing scripts. Vijay has excelled with his performance, dialogue delivery and especially with his body language he carried out the film on his shoulders.

Ashwin as Bala is no lesser than Vijay Sethupathi and the scenes in their combo are laugh riot. Ashwin is fun to watch on screen, particularly the aspects where he handle his manager played by MS Bhaskar and his girl friend Swathi are entertaining.

Nanditha and Swathi as female leads of Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara did their roles well and so the supporting cast Romba, Pasupathi, Soori, Madhumitha, Rajendran, MS Baskar and Robo Shankar.

Technical Analysis:

Director Gokul surpassed in delivering a message oriented movie that doesn't seem preachy. This could be observed mainly in the scenes where Ashwin hates himself for drinking and the way his manager, a Keralite counterfeited by his assistants.

Madhan Karky is one more pole for IAB, as dialogues are the biggest strength of the film. The lyricist has penned an efficient and well framed screenplay for the movie, almost every dialogue evokes smiles on viewers face.

Mahesh Muthuswamy has well captured the nights in Chennai city and the suburbs as well, though most of the movie is filmed in real locations.

Siddharth Vipin's background score is apt, while songs are massy.

Audiences might feel the movie to be a bit dragging, but Leo John Paul's editing is crisp.

Analysis:

Vijay Sethupathi emerged as one more big ticketing mass hero and houseful entertainer in Kollywood and with Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, he has scored continuous fourth hat-trick hit at Chennai box-office after Pizza, NKPK and Soodhu Kavvum.

Director Gokul has done a great job with IAB script along with Madhan Karky, choosing the lyricist for story and screenplay of the film itself significant. Apart from dialogues, characterization and performances, second half of Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara is appealing compared to first, as the actual plot starts before the interval with many interesting twists, while first half appears lagging.
