Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham Review

by MyMazaa.com

Story:

Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham takes off with an interesting start, as lord Muruga plays temple Run and lord Ganesha goes on exercising on treadmill to keep himself fit, while Suba Panju [Shiva] will be working on Apple Desktop. Suba Panju is a doctor who hails from traditional sex-medicine selling family, NKPK Rajkumar, Politician's son Sathyan and Gangster VTV Ganesh are his friends. Suba falls for singer Jayashree [Niveda Thomas]. After few light moments, Suba along with his friends fly to Bangkok, what happens next forms the crux of Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham.

Performances:

Jai, who proved his mettle with Engaeyum Eppothum and Raja Rani just played one among four friends in Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham. He was not given enough space to play the lead role.

Niveda Thomas is feast to watch on screen in romantic parts, but doesn't have much to perform. As singer she has given her best. Though appears for limited time in the first half she leaves a mark.

VTV Ganesh is given ample space, especially in the second half he has many more dialogues compared to Jai. Whereas only few of his witty one-liners tickles audience chords and remaining are fruitless.

Sathyan and Rajkumar, who appear throughout the movie fail to grab viewers attention with their comic timing.

Technical Analysis:

Debutant director K. Chandru, a former assistant of Venkat Prabhu has given a novel start to NSS with Modern kailayam, as the movie is said to be a fantasy comic film. Later on it remains flavorless with not so enjoyable characterizations.

Songs composed by debutant Prem Kumar are one of the reasons for high expectations on the film. Kathirinthal Anbe and a duet in second half are adequate. Kannan's background music is good.

Cameraman Anand Jeeva's cinematography is laudable. Foreign locations such as Langkawi in Malaysia and Bangkok are well captured and look different in every other scene.

TS Suresh's editing could be better, particularly the second half could have been trimmed.

Analysis:

Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham, a so called fantasy comedy film just entertains us in parts. Introduction scene where Muruga plays temple Run and Ganesha works on treadmill is good. Director Chandru has firmly placed his guru Venkat Prabhu in a cameo role, where they plan Mankatha 2.

Seems director's idea is to utilize modern resources but failed big time. There is a scene where Naaradhar asks Lord Shiva to quicken the movie else people will post 'first half of the movie is good and second half is mokka' in their Twitter and Facebook pages. Unexpectedly, movie takes similar remarks, as first half of the film is engaging while second half is preachy.
