Story

Chandu (Nagarjuna) is born and brought up in USA. He is a practical guy who doesn’t believe in relationships and love. He applies ‘give and take’ policy when it comes to dating with no emotion attached to it. He runs an event management company which is sued by a customer (Asish Vidyardhi) and Chandu needs millions of dollars. He gets a call from the lawyer of his grandfather in India that his grandfather is having a property running into thousands of crores and Chandu’s signature is required as he is right heir of the property. Chandu wants to use that opportunity so that he can get enough money to pay his client. Sandhya is a doctor by education and a humanitarian who wants to help kids at ‘make a wish' foundation. Chandu and Sandhya meet accidentally in an airport and they are forced to act as husband and wife. The rest of the story is all about how Chandu learns about relationships and love by observing his grandfather’s joint family and Sandhya.

Artists Performance

Actors: Nagarjuna looks stunning in his new get-up. His character in this film has negative shades in first half. He has done cool steps in I Hate Love Stories song, but s awkward in a particular step in Ne Vinnadi Nijamena song. Nayanthara is good as female lead, but she has put on a bit of weight. Meera Chopra looks good in a brief role. Brahmanandam seems to be getting a pie of heroine’s romance these days. After Adurs, Brahmanandam acts as a lover to Nayanthara and a groom to Meera Chopra. MS Narayana acts as hero’s uncle. K Viswanath brings dignity to the film with his presence and voice.

Technical department

Story - screenplay - direction: The takeoff point (hero characterization, hero getting into financial trouble and then fly to home country) reminds us of Russel Crowe’s A Good Year (2006). Dasarath who has proved himself in dealing with family emotions has dealt the similar genre again. You can see shades of Manmadhudu (hero characterization), Santosham and Mr Perfect. He has succeeded in getting a few family oriented scenes right. But, the screenplay is not interesting. The comedy episodes in this film look forced (MS Narayana & Kovai Sarala thread).

Other departments: Songs scored by Thaman are okay, but background music is not up to the mark. Anil Bandari is a fine cinematographer. But you can’t judge him with the work he has done for this movie. Most of the visuals of the film are unrealistic. This film has the backdrop of USA and they have to use extensive CG work with USA visuals (using bluemat for most of the regular scenes in film). The graphics team and the cinematographer should have superb coordination to get visuals right. But one can see a clear mismatch in the lighting on actors and the background (CG work). A few US related scenes are shot in Bangkok (including USA airport scenes). Dialogues are alright.

Analysis

The title of the film might fool you. Greeku Veerudu title represents heroism. But it’s a film with a lot of family orientation. And there is some comedy too. Nagarjuna’s look is the major asset of the film. Technical values (especially visuals and background music) should be excellent for a slow-paced family film like Greeku Veerudu. But it’s scores less on technical aspects. The success of the film will depend on how family crowds embrace the movie.
