Prof.Baraguru Ramchandrappa is not a commercial director of Kannada film. All his earlier seven films indicate that he is off beat films director. But in 'Janapada' with commercially saleable cast like Radhika and newcomer Raghav professor fails to give right lessons. This is the man who cannot make compromises is evident from his style of screenplay. The net result is a big strain for the producer! Hero Raghav should urgently consult hair dresser. Radhika should attend classes to learn Kannada diction. Director Baraguru before taking a step like this should know the call of gripping narration.
Chandra (Raghav) is a folk singer. He can bring rain to the drought hit areas from his folk songs. The earnings from songs he frames for various occasions is the livelihood for him. He is the winner of 'Janapadha Rathna' award of Rs.1 lakh given by the government. He also earns the presentation of gold chains at the presentation celebration. He had not seen so much of money and gold in his life. Humble Chandra donates this for the construction of school in the village that was a distant dream for the villagers. Chandra has an affectionate sister in the house and a secret admirer Ragha (Radhika). The villagers suspect Chandra for his relationship with sister very often because he had given shelter to a grown up orphan. The secret admirer Ragha also suspects Chandra and he decides to arrange for the marriage of his sister to keep the mouths shut. The way is not clear for Chandra and Ragha to lead a happy life now. The chieftain of the village passes three months ban on Chandra's folk singing because he went to sing for adjacent village head house and failed to turn up to sing when his village chieftain mother was dead. The ulterior motive of the chieftain disturbs the folk artistes who come for fare in the village. United they face the opposition and bring justice to Chandra.
Prof. Baraguru has given good dialogues some of them picking from the proverbs. Had he made this subject quick in narration this could have been passable.
Raghav make up is horrible. Hair is not proportionate to his face. He has delivered dialogues very well, danced well and expression is passable. Radhika dubbing for her inconsequential role fails miserably. Vatsala Mohan, Sharat Lohitashva, Umesh and Nandini have done well.
Hamsalekha give two lovely tunes and Hemanth singing those two songs is very attractive. Nagaraj Advani's photograph falls flat. The lighting has not been done for interior shooting.
No compulsion to watch this film.
