The beginning of 2007 is good for Kannada filmdom. The entry of yet another star son €“ Prajwal film 'Sixer' is made with lot of caution and home work. Except for minor flaws and the script similar to a Kannada film 'Gunna'is rewritten here the enthusiastic team of this film has given an entertaining and up to date film.
Prajwal Devaraj the eldest of Kannada cinema star couple Devaraj and Chandralekha come here to stay. He has all the requirements of a good looking actor besides possessing the zeal and zest for doing good performance. In his debut Prajwal shines like his name. Except in the action scenes all the areas of acting has been put to test for him. The right choice from the right family! The music by veteran Hamsalekha is extremely good and cinematography is splendid by debutant Joshi Makarand.
Protagonist Rahul (Prajwal) is very clear in his ideas. He wants to become a cricketer. For this he is ready to face any type of bouncers in life. His father is an ordinary teacher. In the selection committee the ace cricketer SMH Kirmani picks this chap for his caliber and Rahul is now have to earn Rs.6000 per month to join the camp. He joins a den headed by Khandre (Adhi Lokesh). This is where he goes wrong unknowingly. But it is inevitable for him. Khandre uses this youth ability and ask him to love a girl Swathi (Devaki). The ulterior motive behind Khadre is to foil his opponent Shetty (Rangayana Raghu) from becoming a politician. Both are underworld rivals. Shetty has promised to get his daughter Swathi married to Home Minister son Prakash so that he can get influence to enter into politics. On the other hand Shetty the aspirant for a political seat is the mentor of Khandre. This is where Rahul has to play his trick and temporarily love Swathi daughter Shetty that eventually breaks Shetty intention is the calculation of Khandre. This temporary love Rahul calls as 'TPL' (Time Pass Love). He succeeds in this attempt in winning the heart of Swathi. But Swathi actually falls in love with Rahul. This development shocks Shetty father of Swathi. The motive of Shetty is foiled as the Home minister is also upset with this Swathi and Rahul in love. Home Minister takes back his agreement to give his son for the daughter of Shetty. Now the staunch opponents Khandre and Shetty patch up their old feud and come to an agreement. According to this agreement Khandre is to marry Swathi who is in teens. In addition to Swathi the whole collection area of Shetty is given as dowry for Khandre. In return what Shetty wants is support to win the election. He seeks the support of Khandre by hook or crook.
Now Khandre the ex boss of Rahul wants his support as he is weak in love matters. This is another interesting phase of the film. The one who sow the seeds of love in Swathi is withdrawing for two reasons. One he has to still earn his position and secondly he is not at all in love with Swathi. The time pass love is true according Swathi.
The things get tough. Swathi knows that Rahul is pretending. At this juncture Khandre suspect Rahul and he runs away from his den. Before the final countdown Rahul teaches Khandre and Shetty a lesson in a brilliant manner. He makes solid attempt in bringing Swathi to the house of Home Minister as his son is originally fixed for marriage to Swathi. Swathi loses her temper and the love bouncer she applies Rahul ducks. Next it is as expected.
The screenplay is done in an intelligent style. This is what the present genre asks for.
Prajwal from the family of artistes has been very convincing. He has good future. The casual style of dialogue delivery is impressive. He has to improve in the emotion department. Devaki the plum looking heroine is sweat at some angles. Smitha the second heroine looks impressive.
The anger, fear and comedy from Rangayana Raghu, Adhi Lokesh and Shobaraj have come out very well.
Hamsalekha scores three lovely tunes. The item song for this film was not required. Like wise the opening bloodshed and final battle where the hundreds of long sharp weapons are put down in the religious place Sri Someshwara Temple could have been avoided.
Yet this film is watchable for the sweet looking chap called Prajwal Devaraj.
