Badshah 2013 Review

Story:

Baadshah (NTR) is on a mission to bring down the mafia don (Kelly Dorjee) and in this process he falls in love with Janaki (Kajal), a social activist. He introduces himself as Rama Rao to her and she too loves him. However, her marriage gets fixed with some other guy. Rama Rao has two jobs on his hand now. He has to win Janaki and also topple the mafia kingdom. How he does that is the crux of this story.

Performances:

NTR has done a character which has three different shades in this film. He acted as mafia don Baadshah, and a failed lover Rama Rao and also as a Telangana speaking wedding planner. He is a very good actor and has done his role effortlessly. His dances are a treat to watch. Jr. NTR imitating his grandfather is one of the major highlights. He looked good as Justice Chowdary. Kajal's character is funny and she did well in this film. Brahmanandam is a riot. He has brought the house down with his hilarious antics and wonderful comedic performance. Navadeep didn't have much of a role to play and he is alright. Suhasini is dignified and Nasser is good. All others did their job well.

Technicalities:

Music by Thaman is neat. Songs are pretty good on screen. Cinematography is an asset. Dialogues are funny at times. Editing is alright. Production values are of top class. Direction by Srinu Vytla is good. He has made few mistakes with the screenplay, but as a director he kept the things under control. This may not be his best work, but it is definitely not bad either. A tight script with clarity in screenplay could have taken this film to the next level.

Analysis:

Baadshah offers good amounts of entertainment in its second hour. But the first half is pretty boring at times. A better first half might have done wonders to this. Brahmanandam is the scene stealer in the second half. He takes the maximum screen time once he enters the scene. NTR and Brahmi complemented each other so well and it is brand Srinu Vytla's comedy that takes the cake.

Although there is nice comedy in few scenes that has worked out so well, remaining part of the film is not at all engaging. Story is very predictable and boring. Director had to force some comedy into the flow as there isn't any substance in the story. This is very unlikely of Srinu Vytla. Why because he is known for dealing with a tight screenplay. Despite the shortcomings, Baadshah scores on the comedy front and especially in the second half.

Baadshah will please NTR fans and it is sure to mint big money at the box office due to season advantage. Brahmanandam and NTR comedy is going to be the major crowd pulling element for this film. This film has potential to score a hit and it is up to NTR's star power to take it to the next level.
