Chow Chow Kootu is made from a white squash called chow chow. It is combined with moong lentils, ground coconut, cumin, yogurt and curry leaves to form its delicious gravy base.

The taste is fantastic and goes well with hot phulka's or just with steamed rice. So enjoy cooking this delicate preparation of a chow chow kotu, which is simple and delicious and makes a one dish healthy meal. Alternate vegetables that can be used are cayote squash, bottle gourd, white pumpkin.

Preparation Method

  1. 01 Peel the chow chow and cut into pieces.
  2. 02 Cut the Onion and green Chilieses.
  3. 03 Mix Moong Dal and little amount of Water.
  4. 04 Add Turmeric Powderr powder.
  5. 05 Cook it in a pressure cooker for 5 minutes.
  6. 06 Mix Onion, green Chilieses and chow chow pieces.
  7. 07 Pour 1/2 Cup Water.
  8. 08 BOil the mixture Till chow chow pieces turn soft.
  9. 09 Now add Turmeric Powderr powder and Salt.
  10. 10 Mix cooked Moong Dal and add Chili powder.
  11. 11 BOil it over medium flame Till the mixture turns thick.
  12. 12 Keep it aside.
  13. 13 Heat the Oil.
  14. 14 Add Cumin Seed, green Curry Leaves and Urad Dal.
  15. 15 AlloW them to splutter.
  16. 16 Pour it on cooked chow chow mixture.
  17. 17 Stir it.
  18. 18 Adorn with Coconut Grated.
