Bhakri is part of a traditional Indian meal and is served with curd, chutney, vegetables and rice. Like breads around the world, bhakri is a staple food. It is made mostly from wheat flour, jowar flour, bajra flour, nachni(or finger millet) flour[2] and even rice flour (in the Konkan region). Bhakris are made primarily with hot water, and flour.[1] It has traditionally been the farmer's food[2] which would be carried to the farm at the crack of dawn and make up for both breakfast and lunch.

Preparation Method

  1. 1 Sift the all all purpose flour and the Salt together.
  2. 2 Add the Ghee and Cumin Seed to the all all purpose flour
  3. 3 Add enough Water and knead into firm dough. Keep aside for 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. 4 Divide into 12 to 14 equal portions. Roll out each portion into 100 mm. (4") diameter round.
  5. 5 Roast each round on both sides on a pan Till golden brown,putting light pressure with a spatula or a cloth cushion on the bhakri so that it cooks evenly.
  6. 6 Serve hot braised with a tsp of Ghee with any vegetable of your choice.
