Chana masala with spinach is a vegetarian variation of a traditional and popular Indian food dish. If you don't have all the spices on hand, its ok to omit one of them without too much trouble, but don't omit more than two or you will have a completely different (and bland!) dish on your hands. For a heartier chana masala, toss in some tofu with the chickpeas and serve over rice.

Preparation Method

  1. 1 Wash & soak the channa over night. Put channa in pressure cooker & cook for 10 mins with Rock Salt & Soda.
  2. 2 Grind a handful of the bOiled channa with Ginger, ½ of the minced Onion, Garam Masala pwd,Chili powder, Turmeric Powderr powder, Pomegranate seeds & Cumin Seed to a smooth paste – keep aside.
  3. 3 Heat Oil when hot, add Onion, fry Till Onion are golden brown. Add the ground masala & continue to fry on low flame for 2-3 minutes. Add chopped Tomatos – mix well and cook Till Tomatos are well blended with the masala.
  4. 4 Add the Tamarind Pulp, cooked channa, Salt & a little Water mix well & cook Till thickness is reached.
  5. 5 Add chopped Cilantro.
